What's Next?

A member of the San Francisco 49ers Dana Stubblefield was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a mentally impaired woman at gunpoint back in 2105. Both CNN and Fox News report on this. CNN headlines with "Former NFL player Dana Stubblefield sentenced to prison for 2015 rape." CNN recalls the incident and explains what happened in 2015 to the woman, described as "intellectually disabled." While the district attorney noted that Dana has gotten away with past criminal behavior, he will not today and justice was served. Dana's lawyer, or course, disagrees and believes he is completely innocent. His lawyer goes on to claim that the victim was not intellectually disabled because the court lacked proof of her disability, and he concluded with wanting to appeal because doing a trial during a pandemic is unfair to his client.  CNN ends the article with a brief history of Dana's NFL carrier. Fox News reports with headline "Dana Stubblefield, ex-NFL great, sentenced to 15 years to life after rape conviction." Fox begins the report by explaining how great Dana's NFL carrier was and then how he raped a "mentally delayed" woman at gun point in 2105. Later down Fox gives a brief history of the victim, a woman who was interviewing at his house for a position in babysitting his kids. While there he raped her, gave her $80 and sent her away, to which she imminently reported it to the police. Danas lawyers say she was not mentally disabled enough to not consent. His lawyers also claim the verdict would have been different had "all evidence been shown."

Fox News headlines with "Mystery attack at Berlin museum targets more than 60 pieces of artwork, artifacts with oily liquid," dated today. Fox reports that in Berlins art museum some pieces of art had a type of oil substance on them in the heritage area of the resume. Fox goes on to note that while they are unsure what liquid was used to destroy the work, they are hopeful it will come off without complete destruction. Fox also reports that the police and museum works do not believe there was any motivation for the crime, however that still remains in the air until the criminal is found. CNN headlines with "Police investigate attacks on antique artworks on Berlin's Museum Island," dated today as well. Reactions

As the Breonna Taylor case continues to be a hot topic for the county, more and more is being found out regarding the case. Both Fox News and CC report on the ongoing ordeal. CNN's headline "Breonna Taylor grand juror says panel wasn't given a chance to consider homicide charges." posted today. CNN reports an anonymous member of the panel informed reporters that they were not even given the chance to consider homicide. The trouble came with that the members were not explained homicide offenses and the many factors that go into them. They were only told to focus on the issue of officer safety at hand and nothing else because officials did not think it would pass in court. The attorney was later noted to be posting on social media that he would not appeal the ruling because of a lack of sufficient evidence. The lawyer for Taylor shamed the attorney and claimed he was only doing it for a political agenda, noting that he was "rising in the republican party." The rest of the article goes into more depth, and explains all sorts of factors involved in her death. Fox News reports on the crime with the headline "Breonna Taylor grand jury members say they were not presented with homicide charges," posted today as well. Fox goes on to report the same findings as CNN but make no remark on what Taylors lawyer had to say and keep the jury members statements as alleged. They also end the article with what the attorney posted on his twitter, reminding everyone of what needs to be done in order to prove something in court.

Playing to the Public

White supremacy groups have been an ongoing issue in the United States for a long time, in recent news a group of white supremacists in Utah have been arrested for drug and gun charges. Both Fox News and CNN report on this. CNN published their article October 17th, titled, " Prosecutors in Utah file drug trafficking charges against alleged 'white supremacist gang' members." CNN's article is short and explains that 18 individuals were arrested for 3 different white supremist groups. 1.65 pounds of meth was discovered and one heroin dealer. Fox News reports on the 18th  titled, "21 members of white supremacy groups in Utah arrested on drug, gun charges." Fox News goes on to report the same but more numbers, they also include women in the group, though there are no names listed. They continue to remark that the groups in Utah have larger ties to the bigger supremacists groups in the nation.  The biggest difference comes at the end, Fox reports that Attorney John Huber claims this was not because of a reaction to the protests against racial injustice and police protests, but as a way to show the world that Utah does not tolerate white supremacist's.  It will be interesting to see if any more reports are made by either source.

As the presidential election draws nearer tensions among the people are bound to ride. The NYPD has realized this and are gearing up for protestors to surface. Both CNN and Fox News have covered the story. CNN starts with the headline "NYPD tells officers to prepare for deployment in expectation of election protests," published October 13th. CNN reports that NYPD plans to gear up and be ready by October 25th, the head of the NYPD explaining that this is "one of the most contested elections in America." Mass Media

Seven years later and the Boston Marathon Bomber continues to still be a source of news for the American Public. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, one of the brothers involved in the bombing has recently resurfaced in the justice system.  CNN reports "Justice Department asks Supreme Court to reinstate death penalty for Boston Marathon bomber." During the initial trial it was passed that he would not face the death sentence, however CNN reports that the Justice Department would like to revisit the idea based on the original jury not being properly screened for bias. The plea was passed and he will be given a new trial with a different jury. It was argued that this was of of Americas most important terrorism prosecutions. The article continues to recap what happened that day and end that he is being held in Colorado. Fox News's article titled, "Justice Department asks Supreme Court to hear Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's case." It begins by stating it was wrong to ever "throw out" the death sentence to begin with.  The article also states how this is the most important terrorism prosecutions in America. It is not noted that the thought that the original jury could have be biased. The article instead of recapping the events in 2013 of the bombing explain that the lawyers for the brothers, even though admitted guilt to the bombing, the younger brother, Dzhokhar, should not be put to death as his brother was the mastermind behind the attack.
